Redang Lagoon Chalet Review

Redang Lagoon Chalet is a family-owned chalet resort welcoming guests to the island for over 20 years. This budget resort is centrally located in Long Beach.

The chalets are constructed in a basic Malay style, and the surrounding compound gives you a feel of a ‘Kampung’ or village. Each Chalet has a veranda facing the courtyard, where guests can enjoy the gardens. Most rooms overlook the complex’s courtyard, and some are located in front of it, near the beach with sea views. The front side chalets are close to the dining area, which can make them noisy at night.

There are more than 60 rooms at the Chalet, which guests can rent on a twin, triple, or quad basis. The cabin has a simple layout with beds, an air conditioner, and an attached bathroom with a hot shower. The quad chalets have a loft with two additional mattresses, which can accommodate up to five people. Rooms do not have a TV, kettle, refrigerator, or toiletries. Other than that, the room has a thin wall between rooms, so you may hear what’s going on next door. The wifi connection in the room is also very poor, so you’ll have to go to the reception or dining room to connect.

A large and spacious dining hall offers breakfast, lunch, tea time, and dinner buffets. Local seafood and Muslim-friendly dishes are served here. They also arrange a BBQ buffet on alternate nights, where guests can self-serve a wide variety of seafood and barbecue. The place offers a variety of indoor and outdoor seating so that you can enjoy the breeze at any time of day.

[Update 2021: Due to Covid-19, the buffet is no longer available; if you’re on a full board plan, the resort will provide prepacked local dishes meals]

Due to their budget status, they do not have a pool, spa, or massage services. You will only find basic amenities at the resort. There are, however, many hammocks and Gazebos on the beachfront where guests can view the beach and the sea.

With its prime location on Long Beach and its proximity to the water, Redang Lagoon Chalet offers easy access to the water and swimming right from the shore. You can also snorkel around Tanjung Tengah, where there may be baby sharks. There are also a variety of beach activities here, and you can stroll along Long Beach, which has stalls, restaurants, and shops.

The cost of a 3D2N twin sharing package with full board is around RM300-RM340 per person, including boat transfers to the island, breakfast, lunch, teatime, dinner, and snorkeling activities (without equipment). Another popular package for families and children is quad sharing.

Redang Lagoon Chalet is an excellent option for budget-conscious travelers seeking basic yet affordable accommodation. While the chalets appear older than neighboring resorts, they are often overbooked due to their low prices and convenient location. Overall, this is a budget chalet with basic facilities that give you a sense of a Malay village atmosphere and great beaches.
